Diplomas have now superseded NVQs, the fundamentals of the qualification are still the same. Diplomas in work based fencing are competency based. They are designed to prove the competency of the candidate against the National Occupancy Standards (NOS)
FENCING NVQ (VSF)
To satisfy the requirement of the National Highways Sector Scheme 2B, Lead Erectors who are appointed to that role after March 1999, must hold a level 2 Diploma (NVQ) in Fencing (VSF) The Awarding Body is Lantra Awards and the candidates have to be registered with Lantra. Candidates are issued with the performance criteria so that they can develop a portfolio of evidence and demonstrate they have achieved the required level. The candidate can collect the evidence from a variety of sources but each
piece of evidence must be approved by an authorised
assessor. Elements for
the safety fence units must be assessed by a person who has received training in this work and work specified in the performance criteria would be observed directly by the assessor. The work must be completed in accordance with the Highways Agency specifications. The assessor must hold (or be working towards) the A1 (D32/D33) award.
LEVEL 1 AWARD, HEALTH AND SAFETY IN A CONSTRUCTION ENVIRONMENT
This course is designed to give an understanding of the employees' and employers'
responsibilities and site safety awareness in the construction/fencing industry. It is a requirement of the sector scheme document that candidates applying for a green (operative) FISS/CSCS card as a new application, must achieve this award.
